The Fruit Bats, a.k.a. Flying Foxes,
are back in Accra just in time for Halloween!

Remember all the pictures and videos last year of the large bats that roost in trees near the center of Accra? When the temperatures cooled down, they migrated somewhere else for several months. The weather stayed cooler and wetter than normal, so their return was later than last year. But, just in time for Halloween, they came back by the millions!

The Halloween Bats of Accra

Bats
The bats roost in large trees in North Central Accra
but leave each day to find food.
Why don't they roost nearer the feeding area?

Bats
The bat colony is so large
they look like clouds moving through the sky.

Bats
During the middle of the day,
most of the bats are asleep in the trees.

Bats
In the afternoon they move as a swarm to find food.
This sounds like a seagull and cricket story I heard once.
